American Consumer Opinion® consists of several million consumers worldwide who get paid to participate in surveys and research projects.
Decision Analyst originally created the American Consumer Opinion® panel in early 1986 as a small mail-survey panel. Members were personally invited to participate in the panel by telephone, and they answered the surveys via the mail. Since the surveys were conducted by mail, membership was limited to the United States.
With the development of the Internet, the panel launched online in 1996, and membership was opened to all countries across the globe. The panel currently includes more than eight million men, women, and children throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Latin America, and Asia.
American Consumer Opinion® seeks opinions on a variety of topics. Recent surveys asked members:
• To evaluate new advertising for a retailer.
• To explain how and why they purchase and use gifts cards.
• To express their opinions about the current economy.
• To give their thoughts about tanning products and tell how often tanning products are used.
• To review an idea for a new fuel-additive product for an automotive company.
• To taste test a new snack food for a food manufacturer.
• To tell how happy they were with customer service from their local utility.

American Consumer Opinion® is different from many of the other survey sites because its members are compensated for the time they spend qualifying for a survey. Members are typically paid between 5 and 25 Points (1 Point = 1 penny) for a "screener" survey.

If a member qualifies for the larger survey, they are compensated based on the estimated time that it takes to complete a survey. A shorter survey would earn about 100 Points ($1.00). A more specialized, involved survey could earn up to 5000 ($50.00) points. There are also opportunities for online focus groups, which tend to compensate even more generously. Members are sometimes invited to test new products before they hit the market. This can be anything from sandpaper to lotion to a new gluten-free snack cake.

Once a member accumulates 1000 Points in their account, they can "cash out" via check, Tango gift card, or PayPal. They are also given the option to donate their cash out to charity.

A member can expect to receive an invitation to a survey several times a year. Some members receive many more than this.

No one is going to get rich from taking surveys, but people looking for a little extra cash should find the compensation for their time satisfactory. To sign up visit www.acop.com.
